I would like to share some of my thoughts that go along with today's celebration of Maundy Thursday. In order not over shadow Greg's recent post below on Tony Jones' new book you can read my reflection about Maundy Thursday on our church community blog for the Corridor HERE!
"For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."
Tony Jones, the national coordinator for Emergent Village has come out with a new book called The New Christians. It is an excellent overview of the history of the emerging church, identifiable characteristics of emergents and questions for us to consider about the state of the church today. I am writing a series of reviews and leading discussions of it on my blog and just wanted to invite you to stop by. It is a valuable read for emergents and those interested in the emerging church alike.
So I have been reading one of Brian McLaren's latest books: Everything Must Change in preparation of the "Deep Shift" conference, which is coming to the D.C. area towards the end of this week. I don't know if anyone has read or is currently reading this book, but this book is tearing me up!
In the first twenty pgs. McLaren presents two questions that he continues to ask himself:
One, "What are the biggest problems in the world today?" Two, "What does Jesus have to say about these global problems?"
I feel this last question could and should be reworded to ask "What is Jesus calling us to do about these global problems today?"
Well anyway...I don't know if anyone else is planning on attending the conference, but I would love to dialogue with others about some of the topics raised there.
Here is a clip made reference to in the book that I thought might resonate some discussion.
Emergent Nazarenes are Christians who both identify with the Emergent Church movement while being a part of the Church of the Nazarene . Our purpose is to connect as Nazarenes with the larger conversations of the emergent movement, the Kingdom of God and the world.
